The More You Know

Plan of action or strategy to launch and scale GivingTuesday in Bangladesh
A facebook page named GivingTuesday Bangladesh has been opened to promote the campaign on social media. I would like to delineate some key steps and ideas I have planned are as follows:i. As a country leader, I don't want to collect funds and donations but I would like to do it under the banner of my organization ODIR Bangladesh. I will try to organize webinars, meetings, events with partner and other organizations to encourage them in this regard by conveying the message of ''Support ODIR Bangladesh and help us grow Giving Tuesday" to raise funds. I will provide the necessary tool kit and guidance to them.ii. We can start by spreading the GivingTuesday movement countrywide with people from different walks of life, especially in the underprivileged areas and remote areas by holding meetings, webinars, campaigns and promoting our activities in the national media (Electronic, Press) including social media.iii. In implementing these, some regular expenses such as preparation of tool kit, social media campaign, web developement, media promotion cost, promotional material (pen, diary, calendar, key ring, generosity box manufacturing cost and installation cost, internet billing cost, devisional leaders and co-ordinators training cost etc. I would like to set up a preliminary budget plan to meet all the expenses including the honorarium of the leaders, transportation, food, event management expenses, making banners, festoons, placards etc. In that case I will try to provide some money from my own funds. To finance the rest of the cost, we can seek help from our affiliates, corporate bodies, donors and prominent individuals in the community. Overall, I would like to communicate with GivingTuesday central authority, you and other country leaders to get the necessary advice in this regard. Resources required to implement GivingTuesdayI have provided some financial support for opening Facebook and Twitter pages on social media with logos, domain Hostings fee to open webpages, technical support and maintenance purpose on a monthly basis, certain expenses and toolkits, some promotional gift items, certificate making and regular incidental expenses are required to be paid for the implementation of GivingTuesday in the future. All social media accounts and webpages will be managed by myself and my colleagues Md. Mekail Ahmed and Arfan Sharif from the admin panel by appointing some divisional leaders as moderators. With partner organizations, we can organize workshops, seminars, webinars, various events and campaigns to bring together people from inside and outside the country through email, messengers and WhatsApp groups. To manage and promote these things, a page named GivingTuesday Bangladesh has already been opened on facebook and the website is being opened as soon as possible.Implementation of 3 goals within next one year:1. Bringing the idea of GivingTuesday to people of all walks of life across the country;2. To raise awareness among elites who express reluctance to show generosity and3. Integrate national news and mass media such as print and electronic media in the promotion and dissemination of GivingTuesday.Launching timeSeveral steps have already been taken to implement the GivingTuesday in Bangladesh. I hope that this year I will be able to start magnificent activities including weekly series program on any Tuesday before the annual day celebration.I would like to give a message to the countrymen and partner organizations, let's all build a beautiful Bangladesh and a beautiful world under the shadow of GivingTuesday. Be a witness to the next generation by extending the hands of love, kindness, cooperation and generosity towards each other.

My campaign ideas on the radical generosity movement:Every educational institution including all types of government, private offices, public limited co. garments, manufacturing industries, banks, insurance, shopping malls, NGOs, club offices, hospitals, health care centers, dispensaries, restaurants, etc. will have one donation box (Generosity Box) where all officials, employees, customers and visitors of certain organizations can donate any amount in this donation box and with this donated money they will benefit themselves, participate in social service activities. This concept is completely new in our country. No one has taken this kind of initiative in our country before. We are willing to provide the donation boxes ourselves if we have sufficient funds. A donation box with the GivingTuesday Bangladesh logo can also be set up at each institution. My goals for the next 2-3 years are of following:I am willing to convey the main message of GivingTuesday to people of all walks of life in the country. I want everyone to celebrate the day in a festive atmosphere all over the country. To that end some plans I would like to take:I want to start the GivingTuesday generosity movement at the grassroots level through district-based coordinators by setting up each divisional or regional office with divisional leaders. By doing this, the budget allocation should be increased, fund donation/assistance will be collected from local and foreign donor organizations and efforts will continue to provide funding support from the central authority in all areas.Preliminary budget for execution:I am working with my twelve team members and divisional leaders to implement GivingTuesday in Bangladesh. Later, by appointing 64 coordinators in 64 districts of the country, we are trying to spread this idea throughout the country and in remote areas and allocate a budget to manage the activities properly, the cost of which will be executed with our own funds and money received from donor organizations.I am in contact with some organizations outside my network are of following:1. UNICEF Bangladesh2. Jago Foundation3. Islamic Relief Bangladesh,4. Bidyananda Foundation 5. BRAC6. ASA7. Red Crescent Society8. Bangladesh Women Society9. Save the Children Bangladesh10. Webinar on Implementation of GivingTuesday in Bangladesh: Challenges and ProspectsA webinar organized by the Organization for Disabled Improvement and Rights, Bangladesh (ODIR BD) titled ‘Implementation of GivingTuesday in Bangladesh: Challenges and Prospects’ has held on January 2, 2023. Renowned professors, industrialists, Deputy Secretaries and administrative officers of the Bangladesh Government, engineers, lawyers, environmentalists, development experts, social workers, and professionals spoke in the online webinar. Regarding this a press release was issued by ODIR BD.

The Webinar organizer ” ODIR BD, Moghbazar, Dhaka,” is an NGO working on the rights, health, and education of disabled people.
Mr. Shakil Azad Manon, founder Secretary and convener of Giving Tuesday Bangladesh served as the leading host of the event where Imtiaz Sultan and Md. Mikail Ahmed, two volunteers of the organization, served as co-hosts. Chairman Kohinoor Azad Mouli presided over the event.
The Green Page, an Environmental and Climate Change, was the program’s media partner, and Aid OrphAns (Working on the rights of orphans) served as technical support of the social organization.

In the webinar, Mr. Saleh Azad, a renowned mastermind English Medium School teacher, gave an important speech on preventing student dropout.
Mr. Dr. Shamsul Alam Suhrawardy, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Reputed Luitpariya College, Barpeta District, Assam State, India, delivered and exchanged in the webinar.
When asked about the importance of humane behavior and changing the social attitude towards the disabled, he gave a valuable speech.
All those present at the event were mesmerized and listened to his speech. He expressed hope that Bangladesh and India will work together to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged and disabled.
Persons with disabilities subject to various neglect and discrimination in the social, family, and state spheres. Furthermore, they do not get due respect and protection in the workplace. Their security is compromised. Their health protection is also not promising.

We have to think about whether disabled people are lagging or we are keeping them back. People with disabilities should also retain in the workplace. Care should take so that they do not fall.
Mr. Mohammad Arfanul Haque Bhuiya, Administrative officer of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Government of Bangladesh, spoke about this.
He was asked to know about the safety and health protection of underprivileged and disabled people. He made a vital speech in this regard. He said that as it is crucial to get employment for disabled people, it is also essential to maintain a good working environment.

If they cannot adapt to the environment, they will drop again. He also said that despite relatively good results in the recently published primary assistant teacher recruitment examination, disabled persons had been deprived of posts due to quota disparity. He appealed to the government to ensure the proper recruitment of disabled persons.
We all know that many times disabled children are born due to various complications in the mother’s womb. Due to different human-made accidents and activities, some healthy people also are disabled. Engr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Superintending Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), an Environmentalist, has been successfully working in various organizations dedicated to the environmental protection movement for a long time addressed in the webinar.

He made an important speech, gave necessary directions to prevent human-made impairment, and how can reduce the disability rate.
The number of disabled people is increasing day by day. The issue is worrying everyone, but there is no immediate solution.

Mr. Arfan Sharif, leader of the Autism Support Association of Bangladesh and International Representative of UN member of Economic and Social Affairs, spoke about why climate change is also gaining importance at the discussion table of policymakers. Still, no effective steps have been taken yet.
Employment generation is one of the significant challenges for youth and the youth population. Despite significant economic growth in recent years, Bangladesh has yet to solve this problem successfully.

Does the government have any separate plans to employ underprivileged and disabled unemployed youth? What does the government think about them? When asked about this, the special guest of the webinar, former Deputy Secretary of the Bangladesh Government, Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, and Urban Planner Mr. Tapan Kumar Nath, gave an important speech. In the closing speech, he assured me to work with all the institutions and people from all walks of life.
Writer: Md. Mikail Ahmed
